PA News: Sandy McWilliams walking 700 miles to Pennsville to raise awareness of PSP
Pennsylvania News and TopicsPENNSVILLE TWP. -- Sandy McWilliams, a former Pennsville resident, will walk 700 miles this summer from her home in Kentucky to her mother's house in Pennsville to raise awareness on progressive supranuclear palsy, a rare disease that her mother is fighting. PSP is a rare, fatal brain disease that McWilliams' mother, Allene Stoneman, 76, was diagnosed with a couple of years ago. Roughly 20,000 Americans suffer from the disease which can cause slurred speech, difficulty swallowing, and loss of balance. "You can't do anything about a disease if when people and doctors are asked about it, they don't know. It's not good for people not to know about this disease so I wanted to find a way to make people aware of PSP," said McWilliams, 53.

PA News: Tony Stewart wins at Pocono Pond
Pennsylvania Sports News"God, I'm proud of you guys," said Tony Stewart to this team radio. "Thanks!" The driver turned team owner placed his Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet in Victory Circle after take the lead in the final caution with the rain spitting on his windshield. That position gave him the lane choice for the double-file restart. Those lucky drivers behind him on the outside were able to overtake Greg Biffle who was on the inside lane at the Pocono Speedway. "It is because of the group of guys I am working with. I have always had a great group of people to work with at (Joe) Gibbs (Racing) it is just a little different when it is your own," admitted Stewart. "You know when you are the one at the end of the day that has to be accountable for it. We couldn't do it without all these fans. This year has been hard on the weather side so it was a little nerve wracking there when we got the last caution there with the rain." Stewart actually did notch his and the team's first victory lane celebration with the non-points All-Star race. Today, he was able to notch his first official point-earning Cup victory as a team owner.

PA News: Investigators target Jon and Kate Plus 8 for child labor laws
Pennsylvania News and TopicsIs Jon and Kate Plus 8 Compliant with Child Labor Laws? Is Jon and Kate Plus 8 violating child labor laws? The state of Pennsylvania has opened an investigation into that issue after they received a complaint that the reality show wasn't complying with child labor laws. The Pennsylvania Investigating Jon and Kate Plus 8 After Labor Law Complaint news came out this morning, and was being noted both on the TMZ main page and on this web-site confirming that the Pennsylvania Department of Labor was kicking into action in regards to the case. As it was stated, there was a complaint sent in to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and as such, an investigation was needed. Just because there is an investigation does not mean that Jon and Kate Plus 8 nor Jon and Kate Gosselin have done anything wrong from a legal standpoint. When a legal question such as this is posed through a complaint to the state, the agency is required to respond, and thus a file is opened up to figure out if everything is above the board and on the level. The question at play in this investigation, as well as in a number of media sources, is whether or not the children on the show are being exploited, or whether the show and the parents are adhering to all state policies.

PA News: Kidnap hoax mother heads home to face charges
Miscellaneous NewsORLANDO, Fla. - Bonnie Sweeten agreed today to return to Pennsylvania to face charges she faked her kidnapping and that of her daughter and used a friend's driver's license to buy airline tickets for a trip to Disney World. Looking drawn and worried, Sweeten, 38, of Feasterville, waived extradition at a brief hearing at the Orange County Jail. Wearing a blue jail uniform, her hair hanging loose, Sweeten answered with a simple "yes" to questions posed by Florida Circuit Court Senior Judge Charles Prather and ended her appearance by saying, "Thank, you." More than three hours later, Sweeten left the jail under guard, apparently headed for the airport and a flight to Philadelphia. The charges she now faces - filing a false report and identity theft - are misdemeanors. Weeks before Sweeten took off for Florida with her 9-year-old daughter Julia Rakoczy on Tuesday, authorities in Bucks County looked into an allegation that she might have stolen $300,000 or more from an investment account belonging to one of her ex-husband's relatives, according to a law enforcement official familiar with the investigation.
